Judgement

Judgement is regarded as the twentieth card in the Major Arcana of Tarot Cards, which comprises of twenty-two cards in total.

The Story behind Judgement

The Fool, finally feeling like he has found himself, starts to believe that he is near the end of his journey. However, something is stopping him reaching the end. He looks to the Sun but instead sees an Angel who tells him that he needs to leave his past behind, once and for all. The Fool realises that The Angel is right and that he must face his past.

The Angel passes The Fool a trumpet which he reluctantly blows, knowing what is in store. The earth cracks open and his former selves appear. He now realises that he can no longer fear them, and they disappear when he acknowledges them but realises that he no longer has to live in the past.

Meaning of The Judgement Tarot Card

Judgement basically means being held accountable for your actions, even things that you did a long time ago. This card refers to action of the spirit as well as action of the body. Part of being accountable to ourselves involves accepting who we were and what we did. It will always hold us back until we accept it.

The mind, body and spirit can begin to work in harmony once we have acknowledged who we used to be rather than trying to cover it up. The most important thing is that the person has changed for the better and is starting a new phase of their life. If you try to run away from who you are and who you were, it will only come back to haunt you later in life. This card usually shows you that huge changes are round the corner, but you must let go of the past before you can walk through the open door and shut it behind you.
