Numerology

The study of the alleged mystical relationship between numbers and life is known as numerology. Although some of the earliest mathematicians looked into numerology, today it is most widely associated with astrology. Numerology normally requires a person to give their full name and full date of birth. The name and date of birth are then used to derive information about that person and their future.

Every letter in the alphabet has a numeric value. From this numeric value, a cosmic vibration is obtained. You will normally see numerology charts. They are usually made up of eleven different numbers: 1-9, 11 and 22.

As you can imagine, adding all of the numbers from your name and date of birth together can easily add up to more than 22. When this happens, the digits from within the larger number are added together until one of the elven numbers is derived.

Here’s an example of how to find your birth path number: If you were born on the 16th January 1970 (16/1/1970), you would start by adding all of the numbers together. So 1+6+1+1+9+7+0 = 25. Since 25 is higher than all of the numbers in the numerology chart, we can make the number smaller by adding the digits together. Hence, for 25 we’d just add 2 and 5 together to get 7. This would be your birth path number.

Name numerology is usually calculated using your full birth name. It is often recommended that you use the name that is on your birth certificate. The numbers 1-9 are used to represent the alphabet. So A is 1, B is 2, C is 3, and so on. The tenth letter in the alphabet, J, becomes 1 again. See the chart below.

So what do the numbers mean? Each number used in numerology has a clear meaning; and each number’s meaning has both positive and negative aspects to it.

Below is a breakdown of each number’s meaning, both good and bad.

  • 1. Is a leader, determined and independent. However, 1 can also be seen as aggressive, stubborn and arrogant.
  • 2. Is co-operative, sensible and sensitive. However, 2 can also be seen as fearful, shy and over-dependent.
  • 3. Is positive, expressive and happy. However, 3 can also be seen as unfocussed, selfish and moody.
  • 4. Is practical, helpful and an achiever. However, 4 can also be seen as stubborn, unimaginative and argumentative.
  • 5. Is adaptable, resourceful and quick-thinking. However, 5 can also be seen as irresponsible, impatient and discontent.
  • 6. Is responsible, stable and sympathetic. However, 6 can also be seen as stubborn, dominating and jealous.
  • 7. Is intuitive, individual and charming. However, 7 can also be seen as sly, odd and isolated.
  • 8. Is authoritative, decisive and organised. However, 8 can also be seen as materialistic completely work-orientated and stressed.
  • 9. Is friendly, selfless and sympathetic. However, 9 can also be seen as bad with finances, an attention seeker and moody.

The number 11 is generally seen as being a higher vibration of the number two, but with more spirituality. The number 22 is generally seen as being a higher vibration of number 4, as well as being an excellent project manager.

The number derived from a person’s name is more about the personality of the individual, whereas the number derived from a person’s birth date is more about their future life path. It is important to remember this difference when you know your own numbers.
